6 Must-Haves for the Perfect Winter Getaway

By |Published On: January 25, 2019|

Well, it’s that time of year again…. that time of the year when it is so cold you dread leaving the house and just want to stay under the covers all day. No matter how many layers you wear or cups of hot chocolate you drink, there is no escaping the cold of winter. Of course, staying home all day can also get pretty boring so, while we cannot make the summer sunshine return any faster, we do have the perfect solution for beating those wintertime blues. A quick weekend getaway to the Hamptons can provide everything you need for the perfect winter escape and you might even find yourself enjoying the season.

1. Performing Arts

You can start the weekend by catching a concert or show at one of the many popular East End theaters. Nearby venues offer amazing, must-see performances and concerts throughout the year and upcoming events include a Blues Night with John Hammond and Ronnie Earl at the Suffolk Theater on February 2 and Home Again: A Tribute to Carol King at Bay Street Theater on February 9.

Other East End performing arts venues include Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, Guild Hall, Southampton Arts Center, Southampton Cultural Center and Quogue Community Hall, all of which host a variety of events throughout the winter from comedy shows to concerts, plays, and ballet performances. (If you have not already done so, please sign up for The Quogue Club Newsletter for a complete list of upcoming events and things to do in the Hamptons.)

2. A Big, Cozy Bed

Obviously, the perfect winter getaway would not be complete without a big, comfy bed that you want to stay in all day. And, you’re on vacation, so sleeping in is absolutely allowed. Here at The Quogue Club, you will want to stay tucked away all day in our luxurious Supima bedding, watching your favorite movie on the flatscreen TV. Massage services are also available at the hotel to add a little extra relaxation to your winter getaway.

3. A Favorite Wintertime Activity

If you do decide to leave the comfort of the hotel and adventure out into the cold, grab a pair of skates and visit one of the nearby ice rinks for a little winter fun. Southampton Ice Rink offers a fully covered ice rink or head to Greenport Village to check out their outdoor ice skating rink, located right next to the carousel in Mitchell Park. Both rinks offer plenty of free skating time throughout the weekend for you to enjoy.

If ice skating isn’t your thing, try a winter hike in one of our local parks. You can also visit Wildwood State Park to go cross-country skiing. And, as always when visiting the Hamptons, you can enjoy a winter walk on the beach. There is truly never a bad time for a trip to the ocean (just remember to bundle up).

4. A Fireplace to Warm Up By

After a day adventuring in the cold, warming up next to a fireplace is a must for your perfect winter getaway. Whether you choose to curl up with a good book, play a game of backgammon or enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail by the fire is up to you. The Quogue Club features 3 working fireplaces in the common areas of the hotel, perfect for enjoying a little downtime before dinner.

5. A Romantic Dinner

There is no better way to end your busy winter day than with a romantic dinner, and with Long Island Restaurant Week just around the corner (January 27 – February 3, 2019), you can take advantage of 3-course prix-fixes at the restaurants you’ve been wanting to try.

Our restaurant here at The Quogue Club also offers the perfect setting for a romantic dinner to top off the evening. Dining at the Club is reserved for members and hotel guests only and enjoying one of Chef Matt’s specials is a delight not to be missed (not to mention, you don’t have to venture back into the cold).

6. A Wine, Beer or Cider Tasting (or All 3)

Winery tastings and tours are no longer reserved only for the warm spring and summer months. The East End of Long Island is home to many wineries, breweries and cider houses that welcome guests throughout the year to enjoy their locally crafted beverages. Many of these establishments offer cozy, indoor spaces that are ideal for an afternoon of relaxing and enjoying a flight of your choice and can provide the perfect end to your winter getaway.

Check out wineries such as Lieb Cellars in Cutchogue and Wölffer Estate Vineyards in Sagaponack, which continue to offer live entertainment throughout the winter months. Also, be sure to visit the new Riverhead Cider House in Calverton for a fun afternoon of board games and live music.

As they say, “If you can’t beat them, join them”, so we might as well embrace the cold weather and make the most of it while we wait for the warm weather to return. Stay cozy, friends!
